Getting office oriented

Today I learned how to merge emails, practicing on my family as a test run. (Thanks guys!) Since I got my email yesterday officially, I am still organizing emails and putting things on my outlook calendar. I synched my Gmail with outlook so I can check my calendar on the phone. I completed my 2 week/4week/2 month objective list and met with Zach to go over it. Lots of stuff to do!

Applying for food assistance: Part 1

Went to Delaware Co JFS to apply for benefits/transfer my benefits from Medina county. My lovely case worker in Medina transferred my file for me, but that action apparently holds no weight. I had to fill out an application again and essentially start from the beginning. I didn’t have to wait long to be helped or to be told to go home (they would send me a letter with an appointment). Luckily, this experience is part of my job and it is not only expected, but counted as part of my work day. Can’t imagine someone trying to get off work, or if they are embarrassed, telling their boss about why they have to take off.

Starving to Serve, the Beginning

Starving to Serve. See what I did there? I'm an AmeriCorps*VISTA, so my measly stipend (ahem...generous stipend with which I am grateful to live with!) just gets me by on the essentials. Food assistance (SNAP) is a great help as well, so the "starving" part is actually representative of my desire and feeling of absolute duty to serve. The title really has to be credited to my dear friend, Matt. He was the only one who responded to my "help me name my new blog" call on Twitter, and luckily he's a clever guy.

So you aren't bogged down with reading my inevitably wordy description of all the organizations and programs I am working for, I'll link them all out below and you can read them at your leisure. Within the next year of blogging, hopefully you can also get a better picture of what they all do.
